Vicia sativa Cool season legume cover crop. Attracts and feeds beneficial insects not only with its blossoms but also with extra-floral nectaries. More nectifarous than Purple or Lana vetch. Also valued for hay and forage because of its high protein content and good palatability. Tolerates light mowing or grazing. Grows to 3'. Similar in habit to Purple or Lana Vetch but lower-yielding and less expensive. Hardy to 0°F. Seed early in fall or spring at 1-3 lb/1000 sq ft or 40-60 lb/acre.
