Desem sourdough starter is available as a dried culture. Dried sourdough starters are shelf-stable and do not have to be fed or cared for immediately. After activated, for best results, we recommend feeding your Desem sourdough culture weekly. Dried sourdough starters can be ready to create baked goods within 3 or 5 days.
I found the instructions were missing some key parts -- for instance, they don't explain why I have to keep discarding all but 1/2 cup of starter, or that I could use it for other recipes, so I wasted more than I should have. My first loaf turned out really flat, probably because I didn't knead it enough, so I will knead it more next time. But the flavor is delicious and mild, and it makes absolutely fabulous pancakes!
