Asclepias tuberosa Butterfly Weed, Butterfly Flower. Herbaceous perennial native to the American prairies. Hardy to -20 degrees F. Strikingly beautiful herb, with tresses of deep yellow and orange flowers, sometimes nearly red. Attracts Monarch Butterflies and provides nectar to the bees. Will survive in low-fertility areas and will cohabit happily with grasses. The herb is seldom used in current herbal practice, and is mainly planted for display.

Planting & Care
Soil & Water:Plant prefers full sun and regular watering. Soil can be regular or even poor garden soil.
Planting & Growing: Sow the seed in the early spring. The seed is a cold-soil germinator. If you are not planting in the early spring, or garden in a warmer climate and warm soil, then it is best to pre-treat the seeds in moist medium in the refrigerator (not the freezer) for 2 weeks before sowing warm.Tap-rooted plants are best sown in-situ, in the garden bed. These large plants are best spaced at least 2 feet apart.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvesting of root should be done from the second year onward.
