Slow release N-P-K Slow-release organic fertilizers from dungeness crab, a by product of shellfish processing, and is air-dried at low heat and crushed for a uniform easy-to-apply amendment. Studies have found that chitin provides a source of carbon and nitrogen for microbial growth in soil. Materials high in chitin are used widely in Asia for their nematocidal properties. Beneficial chitin-feeding microbes increase in the soil until the chitin supply diminishes and then they move on to nematodes (eggs & adults) which are also primarily composed of chitin. Nematode reduction takes 4-8 months and is helped by warm, moist soil conditions and ample nitrogen. Apply 500-2000 lb/acre or 12-15 lb/1,000 sq ft.
