One of the most popular fall planted bulbs, hyacinths are prized for their heavily perfumed flowers, fine form and soft, rich colors. The most fragrant of the spring blooming bulbs, they sweetly perfume the air in April. The star shaped florets, densely clustered along the 8-12" flower spikes, make a strong color statement. Easy to grow, they are at home in formal beds or in groups of single colors - with early tulips, windflowers or daffodils - at the front of a sunny border. Plant only in well-drained soil in sunny to lightly shaded spots for March-April bloom. When cut, spikes can last up to two weeks.
Try them in containers, where you can enjoy their magical scent to the fullest. If specially prepared, they can be easily forced for Winter bloom. Plant densely (without allowing bulbs to touch each other) in pots for maximum effect.
