June bearer Semi-early season. Medium-large, long to flattish wedge, moderately firm, juicy berries with good flavor, freezes well. Immensely popular in CA, especially for southern CA winter production; also performs well in the east and worth trying in the south.
Strawberry plants generally grow 6"-8" tall and 12" across, are shallow-rooted, and benefit from pine needle or straw mulch. Prefer a soil rich in all the basic nutrients with a pH of 6-6.5. Susceptible to root rot and must be planted in well-drained soil, with crown set at soil level. Yield under the best of conditions is about one basket per plant per season. Use bird netting if you do not want to lose too many berries to our winged friends. Mulching film is a great idea as it greatly reduces the need for weeding. June bearers generally produce a single large crop in spring to early summer (as early as March in warmer regions such as Southern California and Florida) and are prolific producers for 3 to 4 weeks. Ever bearers are most productive in northern areas where summer brings extended daylight hours. Ever bearers are not as prolific as June bearers but are especially suitable for growers who wish to harvest a constant supply of berries throughout the summer. Non-taxable.
ABOUT STRAWBERRY BOXES Full Box Plant Quantities: Please note that the case count of a full box may vary (i.e., 800-1500 plants) from one season to the next (this information is tentative when we publish our Fall Catalog). We automatically ship the full box in its packed quantity, unless instructed otherwise. Therefore, please indicate when placing your order if you are flexible or if you must be notified of actual case count prior to shipping.
Availability to Ship Dates: Order boxed strawberries as early as possible, as commercial quantities become committed early and orders ship on a first-come basis. Availability dates are harvest-dependent and hard to predict; your order will ship as soon as possible. Digs begin October-December, and availability may continue until May. Be prepared to receive your plants at any time during this time frame.
