Unique, deep-burgundy asparagus. With a 20% higher sugar content, this variety can be eaten raw! Spears are generally larger than green types and more tender and less stringy. Mild nutty flavor when cooked. Zones 4-8.
Asparagus is a hardy perennial, grows well in most areas. Beds are productive for 10-20 years, so plant in permanent location. Plant crowns in 5" deep trench as close as 1' apart in spring or fall/winter in mild climates. Harvest few shoots the 1st year, allowing most spears to set ferns & direct energy back into becoming stronger plants. In the 2nd year, begin regular harvesting of the spears. Sold in bundles of 5 bare-root crown divisions.
