Trifolium pratense
Cool season legume cover crop.,/b> Actually a short-lived perennial with strong re-seeding ability. High yields, good Nitrogen fixation (to 140 lb/acre), feed palatability, and exceptional beneficial insect habitat. Usually covered with honeybees, beneficial wasps, and tachnid and syrphid flies. Often inter-seeded with grains and irrigated to make a honey and seed crop after grain harvest. Blossoms are edible and medicinal. Plant in areas with moderate temperatures and on soils with high Calcium content. Widely adaptable. Grows to 18". (No inoculant needed)
Do not plant on poorly drained soil. Tolerates temperatures to 0°F. Seed in fall or spring 0.25"-0.5" deep at 0.5-1 lb/1000 sq ft or 10-20 lb/acre. Grows to 1.5'-2'.
