Cicer arientinum

Cool season legume cover crop. Versatile legume can be grown as a cover crop for its protein-rich edible beans, or for hay. Fixes 75-100 lb/acre of Nitrogen. In mild winter areas of California, it can be planted from October through February (year-round in moderate coastal climates) but it starts slowly in cold soils, so watch for weed competition. Seeds easily rot in very cold or wet soils. Grows to about 2.5'. Sow 1" deep at a rate of 60-80 lb/acre, 2 lb/1000 sq ft. (Raw seed, requires Garbanzo Bean inoculant)
