Brassica navinosa Hardy Annual Tatsoi is a Chinese nonheading mustard, a great green to add to salad or stir-fry. Dark, round spoon-shaped leaves grow on broad, tender, crisp white stalks, with a large celerylike base. They have a tangy, mild mustard flavor.Soil & Water: Tatsoi greens prefer rich, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0—7.5 and plenty of added organic matter. Water regularly and evenly to avoid bitterness. Planting & Growing: Tatsoi prefers cooler weather, but tolerates warm weather. Start indoors 3 weeks before the last frost and continue planting every two weeks until midsummer. Harvesting & Storage: Begin harvesting individual leaves after the center rosette has begun to develop. Did You Know? For baby greens, sow thickly and scissor-harvest at 3" to 4" tall.
