Sodium must be monitored in conjunction with ERGS. Sodium increases soil conductivity, but at high levels it produces plant and microorganism toxicity. If the ERGS reading is high due to high sodium levels, corrective action will be necessary to prevent harm to soil microbes, humus formation and ultimately plant growth.
