About Using T-Tape SystemsCost-effective polyethylene T-Tape is now available in homescale as well as commercial sizes. It has a 2-year-warranty, but usually lasts 3 or more years if installed on the surface, much longer if buried 1"- 4" below the surface. Due to a manufacturing advance, the new 10 mil "TSX" T-Tape now has the strength of 15 mil, but costs less. Instead of emitter holes, the new T-Tape has slits spaced 8" apart. The slits close when the water is off, almost eliminating most externally-caused plugging problems. Protect against internal clogging by flushing your system for at least 30 minutes after "fertigating" (fertilizing while irrigating). We do not recommend T-tape if your water has heavy mineral deposits. T-Tape must be used on low water pressure (2 to 15 PSI), achieved by installing a pressure regulator. At 10 psi, T-Tape distributes 40 gallons per hour (GPH) per 100'. Line layout depends on your soil and the water needs of your plants. On level ground, a run should not be longer than 350'. Lines should be spaced 9" apart for overall coverage. T-Tape needs to be kept flat, which can be achieved with U-Shaped Ground Staples. Install T-Tape only on slopes of 3% or less. The more level the ground and the shorter the T-Tape run, the more even or uniform the water flow will be throughout the run. If the run slopes downhill, more water will go to the end. If the run is too long, or goes uphill, more water will be emitted at the beginning. Every 2000' of T-Tape requires both a filter and a pressure regulator.
