Sweet, Plentiful Nuts

  • Zones: 5-9
  • Chill hours: 400-500
  • Harvest: September 15 - October 10
  • Looks: Soft shell.
  • Personality: Sweet, flavorful nuts.
  • Facts of note: Good producer; not tolerant of alkaline soil.
  • Pollination: Pollinated by 'Colossal Seedling' and 'Colossal'. One 'Nevada' tree pollinates 8-10 'Colossal' trees.

Large and starchy with a distinctly smooth flavor. Boil, bake, or roast them on an open fire. The tree itself is deciduous, with large, serrated leaves; grey bark; and a grand, stately appearance. The nut comes in an interesting, spiky hull. Trees are 2 years old, and should begin to fruit in their 5th-7th year.

Check out our Fruit Tree Harvest Chart to plan for successive harvests.

Please Note: Although most of our bare-root trees arrive to our warehouse in mid-December, there are a few varieties -- Mulberry, Persimmon, Quince, and Walnut -- that will not arrive until mid-January. If you order any of those varieties along with varieties that arrive in mid-December, your order will be delayed for shipment until mid-January. If you'd like us to split your shipments, please contact us at (800) 784-1722 or Additional shipping charges will apply.
