Beans - Purple Pod - Phaseolus vulgaris
Annual Pole. Heirloom. Red-violet, 5"-7" snap bean pods grow on vigorous, productive vines. These are stringless, dense pods that turn green when cooked.
Soil and Water: Legumes like well-drained soil rich in organic matter and a moderate amount of nutrients. Water lightly at planting, medium at flowering, and heavily throughout harvest time. Avoid overhead watering which can promote disease. Keep soil evenly moist.
Planting and Growing: Plant in warm soil for good germination, near a trellis, teepee, or fence to support the climbing vines. Start indoors in short-season climates, or seed directly once soils have reached at least 65°F, preferably after the last frost.
Harvesting and Storage: Pick continually to keep the crop coming. Harvest pods before the bean seeds inside make the pod fat.
