Description

Please Note: The FRUIT DESCRIPTION, RECOMMENDED POLLINATOR(S) and USDA ZONES as shown in our recently published 2015 Bare Root Catalog are INCORRECT (but the Chill Hours and Harvest Dates are CORRECT).

Semi-dwarf on Citation rootstock.

  • Zones: 6-10
  • Chill hours: 300-400
  • Bloom Time: Mid-Season (Based on typical Central Valley California weather)
  • Harvest: September 1 - October 1
  • Looks: Medium sized elongated green fruit with a red blush. Very firm, yellow almost freestone flesh.
  • Personality: Crisp texture and explosive flavor.
  • Facts of note: Dave Wilson's Taste Test Top Scorer. One of the top 3 taste-test scorers over all. Fruit hangs on the tree for 4 to 6 weeks while maintaining quality. Vigorous, upright, growth habit and a productive regular bearer.
  • Pollination: Pollinated Flavor King Pluot®, Dapple Dandy Pluot® or Santa Rosa plum

The Pluot® is "Interspecific" meaning it is a complex hybrid of 70 percent plum, 30 percent apricot with decidedly more plum-like traits. Smooth-skinned like a plum, the Pluot is sturdy and durable with luscious flavor. It has the chin-dripping juiciness of a fully ripe plum without the notoriously tough skin and tart center typical of the parent plum. The complex, intense flavor of Pluot is unique to interspecifics, much like a blend of fruit juices where the mixture is an improvement over any of the separate ingredients. One of the sweetest fruits, with 16-24 Brix probably explains why Pluots dominate the Dave Wilson Taste Tests. The fruit is very high in Vitamin A. Pluots were bred by Zaiger Genetics Inc. of Modesto California. Trees are 2 years old and should begin to fruit in their 4th or 5th year. Citation Rootstock is tolerant of wet soil, induces early dormancy in dry soil, is very winter hardy, resists root knot nematodes, and produces a 12'-18' tree. By pruning you can keep your tree at any height.

Check out our Fruit Tree Harvest Chart to plan for successive harvests.

Please Note: Although most of our bare-root trees arrive to our warehouse in mid-December, there are a few varieties -- Mulberry, Persimmon, Quince, and Walnut -- that will not arrive until mid-January. If you order any of those varieties along with varieties that arrive in mid-December, your order will be delayed for shipment until mid-January. If you'd like us to split your shipments, please contact us at (800) 784-1722 or orderdesk@groworganic.com. Additional shipping charges will apply.

Guarantee

Limited Guarantee for Dormant Trees & Plants

Claim Deadline is June 1st (Claims placed after June 1st will be denied.) Please note: Our trees will come to you topped off at approximately 3 ft. in height to put the tree’s stored energy into root development vs. foliage production.

What We Guarantee
Our only guarantee is that your dormant tree/plant will arrive in good, viable condition and will leaf out by May 15th (historically 98% of our trees do). This guarantee is only available to customers who purchased their tree/plant directly from us.

What We Cannot Guarantee
We cannot guarantee that your tree/plant remains alive & healthy, or bears fruit, as there are too many variables beyond our control in order to do so (i.e. soil preparation, planting, fertilization, weed & pest control, adequate irrigation and/or drainage, chill hours, compatible hardiness for your zone, proper choice of pollinator, etc).

How to Request a Credit
If your tree/plant does not leaf out by May 15th, please contact us as soon as possible (but no later than June 1st) and we will issue you a credit (not a refund) for the purchase price of your tree/plant (excluding shipping).*

(*) We reserve the right to not issue credit for items already replaced. We also reserve the right to require photographic evidence of the condition of your tree/plant and/or a scratch test. The scratch test consists of checking for green under the bark a few inches over the graft (please watch our video titled Bare Root (Dormant) Warranty for more information on this simple procedure). If the scratch test reveals a brown cambium, the tree/plant is dead or dying.
