Description

Parsnip - Turga - Pastinaca sativa

Hardy annual Heirloom. An amazingly vigorous parsnip, far out-yielding the market standards. Large, heavy roots with outstanding sweet, nutty flavor.

Did You Know? Parsnips are native to Europe and Asia and have been cultivated since ancient times. They are an excellent source of fiber, vitamin C, and folic acid. Also a very good source of magnesium, niacin and potassium.

Soil & Water: Parsnips require light, deeply cultivated soil. They do not have high nutritive or watering requirements (too much nitrogen or manure causes forking). Ideal pH is 6.5.

Planting & Growing: Sow seed directly as soon as ground can be worked. Lightly cover with compost or soil that won't form a crust.

Harvesting & Storage: Roots will be ready for lifting from fall onwards. They can be left in the soil all winter, lifting as required. It's best to mark each plant so that it is possible to find them once the foliage has died down.
