Hardy annual Fresh-flavored "edamame" beans are sweet, buttery, and the plant is high yielding. The 2'-2½' stocky plants are well-branched and stand well, producing a prolific set of large pods.
Soil & Water: High clay soils may be amended with peat moss, sphagnum or organic mulch to increase the humus content. Sand may be added to loosen and aerate the soil and allow better drainage.
Planting & Growing: Edamame require a healthy, fertile, workable soil, loose and well-drained.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest edamame when the beans in the pod are 80-90% expanded or when the leaves have changed from bright green to a slight yellowish-green color. Pods can be refrigerated for up to 7-10 days or blanch them for 2-3 minutes in boiling water and freeze them in a single layer.
