Cucumber - Marketmore 76 - Cucumis sativus

Tender Annual Marketmore 76 strain produces 8"-9" long fruits varying in diameter from 2"-2 ?". Dark green even in hot weather with a sweet mild flavor. The fruit is blocky but tapers at both ends, covered in white spines with no stippling. Good for both home gardens or market in cool climate areas. Developed by Dr. Munger of Cornell University.

Soil & Water: Plant cucumbers in hills or mounds with plenty of added organic matter. Sow 6-7 seeds in a hill, thinning to the 3 best vines.

Planting & Growing: In cool regions, start seeds indoors 10-14 days before the last frost, or sow seeds directly when the soil is at least 70F. Plant seeds 18" apart if trellised or 36" apart if left to sprawl.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest while small to medium-sized for best flavor. Keep harvesting fruit, even if misshapen, to keep vines productive.

Customer Reviews

Dependeble and prolific

I had near perfect indoor germination rates and 85% transplant success with a short hardening off period in amended heavy clay soil and full sun. My plants are disease-free, growing large (4 - 6 feet at begin of production time) and fruiting well.

I also tried some in my mother's sandy but nutrient amended soil in 85% sunny spot. poor germination and slow growth.

Flavor is mild and fresh, texture is firm and crisp. Producing a cuke a day total between my four plants.
