Description

Tomato - Siletz - Lycopersicon lycopersicum

Tender Annual Determinate. Developed by Dr. James Baggett of Oregon State University. Recommended for early peak yields; setting fruit in cold weather, it is the earliest true slicer in trials. Its full-flavored, large fruit ranges from 10-12 ounces. This variety is resistant to verticillium wilt, fusarium wilt 1, and cracking.

Did You Know? There are around 10,000 varieties of tomatoes in a rainbow of reds, yellows, greens, purples, pinks, and even white.

Soil & Water: Tomatoes love fertile soil rich in organic matter. Add plenty of compost prior to planting. Soil pH is preferred between 5.5-7.0. Soak the soil 4"-6" deep at 7-day intervals.

Planting & Growing: Sow seeds in flats 6-8 weeks before the last frost and thin to 2" apart after the first true leaves appear. Before transplanting after the last frost, harden off the plants by placing them outdoors for a few hours to start, increasing the amount of time each day until they are accustomed to a full day of sunlight.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest when individual fruits give slightly under finger pressure; the shoulders may not have changed color yet.

The Best

We harvested 60lbs of these. Actually got more but some before we started weighing. Later the heat here in Phoenix was just too much. This from just 4 plants.
