Planting & Care
Soil & Water:Leeks require rich, fertile soil to last the long growing season. Add ample manure or compost before planting and supplement several times over the growing season with fertilizer. Weed carefully and mulch to conserve moisture. Keep seed bed evenly moist.
Planting & Growing: To start indoors, sow seeds 1 inch apart in seed starting medium covered 1/2 inch deep and firm over seeds. Keep moist and provide a strong light source until ready to plant out. Once 3-4inches tall, transplant 4-6 inches apart in full sun. Plant seedlings deeply in the soil so tips stick about 2 inches above ground.
To start outdoors, space seeds 1 inch apart in rows 8-10 inches apart, or broadcast thinly for bed planting. Cover 1/2 inch deep and firm sil well over seeds.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest as slim babies or let some mature to full size and dig as needed. Mature leeks store well in the ground during the winter months.
