Planting & Care

Soil & Water:Even moisture is required and weeds should be removed. Feed monthly for best quality heads.

Planting & Growing:In midsummer or early fall sow seeds in a sunny bed 1/4 inch deep and 1-2 inches apart in rows 12 inches apart. If weather is still above 80 degrees, sow seeds in containers in a spot out of direct sun, but with bright light. Tend carefully and keep moist . When a few inches tall and several sets of leaves have formed, transplant into garden a foot apart. Thin all seedlings to allow heads to mature.

Harvesting & Storage: Radicchio is best harvested when red heads have formed inside the outer green leaves. Escarole and endive should be cut as heavy heads.
