Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Thrives in rich soil and cool growing conditions. Keep well watered and weeded for best taste. Feed 2 or 3 times during the growing season with high nitrogen fertilizer such as hydrolyzed fish.

Planting & Growing:As soon as soil can be worked in the spring, prepared bed in full sun. Sow seeds 2 inches apart in rows spaced 6-8 inches apart. Cover 1/4 inch deep. Sow again in late summer for another crop. To start indoors, sow seed in an container of seed starting mix, 2 inches apart and cover 1/4 inch deep. Keep moist and provide a strong light source until about 3 inches tall and ready to plant in the garden 5-6 inches apart.

Harvesting & Storage: Use early thinnings in salads. Cut whole heads when they are plum and filled out.
