Reputed to be a highly nutritional practice, sprouting is an affordable way to grow your own nutrient packed food in a matter of days.
Sprouting involves soaking, draining, and rinsing food grade seeds until they begin to germinate.
Sprouts are rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, beneficial enzymes and more. They have been called the "most enzyme rich food on the planet".
Sprouts, like any fresh live food, could carry harmful bacteria; nothing grown in nature is sterile. Although Mumm's feels the risk of organic seed being contaminated with salmonella or e-coli is very small, they do take it very seriously. Mumm's samples each lot (probes every bag) of seeds as it arrives in their warehouse. Samples go to an independent lab for sprouting, followed by salmonella and ecoli O157 tests. Mumm's keeps seeds quarantined until negative test results are returned. Mumm's uses a system of GMP's (good manufacturing practices) to insure the seed stays clean until it reaches the customer.

Days to Sprout: 4
Best Sprouting Methods: Jar or Sprouting Tray (such as the Sproutmaster Trays )
Optimal Soak Time: 4-8 hours
Easy sprouting directions (jar method):
SOAK- Put 1 to 2 Tbsp. seed in a wide mouth jar. Cover with mesh and secure with rubber band. Add water, swirl, and drain. Add 1 cup cool water and soak for 4 to 8 hours. Drain well.
RINSE - Twice a day, refill jar with cool water, swirl, and drain. Invert jar and prop at an angle in a sink or bowl.
ENJOY - Ready to eat in 4 days. Refrigerate to store. (Sprouts can be refrigerated for up to two weeks in a sealed container. (Sprouts store best when they are fairly dry- do not store immediately after rinsing.)
Easy sprouting directions (tray method):
SOAK- Cover the bottom of the sprouting tray with one single layer of seed. Place the tray and seeds in a dish of water and soak for 4 to 8 hours. (Alternatively, once you've measured your seeds in the tray, you can put the seeds in a bowl, fill the bowl with water, and soak for 4 to 8 hours.) Drain well.
RINSE - Twice a day, rinse the seeds. Either rinse under a tap of running water, or use a spray bottle to mist well. Tip the tray to the side to drain well.
ENJOY - Ready to eat in 4 days. Refrigerate to store. Sprouts can be refrigerated for up to two weeks in a sealed container. (Sprouts store best when they are fairly dry- do not store immediately after rinsing.)
Fenugreek- Vitamins B6 & C, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc.
Lentils- An excellent source of folate and manganese, and a good source of thiamin, iron, phosphorus, and copper.
Adzuki Beans- Rich in protein, amino acids, iron, niacin, and calcium.
Mung Beans- A great source of protein and a very good source of vitamins B6 & C, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and amino acids.
1/2 cup of dry seed yields approx 2 1/2 of sprouts.
Storage & Shelf Life
Our seeds should sprout well for a year after you purchase them, if stored in a cool dry place. If you’d like to extend the germination life of your seeds, store them in the fridge. If you store your seeds in the freezer, they’ll last almost indefinitely.
