Planting & Care

Soil & Water:Requires rich, moist, poorly drained soil.

Planting & Growing:Sow seed in early spring by pressing into the surface of moist soil (seed is light dependent) or give 30 days refrigeration in moist potting soil, coir or peat. Exposure should be full to partial sun. Keep bed moist for 3-5 weeks needed for germination. Thin or transplant to 2 feet distance. Flower talks should be removed to prolong production. Seed does not store well and formation of seed heads often signals end of plant life cycle.

Harvesting & Storage:Seed is short lived and cold stored. Roots should be rapidly dried after dug up in autumn and stored air tight. Stems are usually cut in June or July for use.
