Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Soil should be well drained, fertile and in full sun. Consistent moisture and mild weather are necessary for best flavor. Mulch to retain moisture in summer and before ground freezes to protect the root of fall crops.

Planting & Growing: In early spring and/or late summer, sow groups of 2-3 seeds, 12-18 inches apart and cover lightly and evenly with 1/4 inch of fine soil. FIrm soil gently and water with a fine spray, then keep bed evenly moist. Thin to one seedling per group when several inches tall. To start indoors, sow in container of seed starting mix 2 inches apart and 1/4 inch deep. Keep moist and provide strong light source until seedlings are 3-4 inches tall; then transplant outdoors. Space 12-18 inches apart.

Harvesting & Storage: Begin harvesting when there are 6-8 leaves. Pull and discard once plants begin to bloom.
