Description

Eye-catching Ruby Gem offers plump, heavy rosettes about 6 inches tall. The vigorous seedlings grow rapidly into perfectly formed, well filled out, beautiful little heads with tightly folded, ice green hearts and ruby red tops. Leaves have crisp, juicy texture and marvelous flavor. Slice a pretty head of Ruby Gem in half to plate up a great salad for 2 people– just pour over the dressing! This superb variety was developed for gourmet markets by our favorite specialty lettuce grower. Planting and growing information can be found on the seed packet image. While Renee's Garden seeds are not all certified organic, they do not sell treated or GMO seeds and have signed the "Safe Seed Pledge". This seedline features unique varieties personally selected by Renee Shepherd for use in the kitchen or in bouquets.

Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Grow in fine soil and keep evenly moist. Fertilize (liquid) every two weeks.

Planting & Growing:Sow in finely worked soil in full sun in early spring or late summer. Sow seed about 1 inch apart and cover evenly with 1/4 inch of fine soil. Firm gently and water with a fine mist. Thin seedlings to about 10 inches apart. Seedlings can be transplanted to other areas to grow out. Sow additional seeds every two seeks until summer heat arrives. Provide shade and daily water when hot. Can be grown in pots or containers (approximately 3 full heads to an 8 inch pot).

Harvesting & Storage:Harvest mature heads when solid and well filled out. Discard heads if they elongate due to heat as they will become bitter.
