Notes:

Bean - Rattlesnake - Phaseolus vulgaris

Tender Annual Pole. Heirloom. Rattlesnake beans are named for their purple streaked pods that resemble a rattlesnake's skin. This versatile bean is tasty as a green bean or as a dry bean with a flavor like a pinto bean. The productive vines have high yields of stringless, 7 inch long pods.

Soil and Water: Legumes like well-drained soil rich in organic matter and a moderate amount of nutrients. Water lightly at planting, medium at flowering, and heavily throughout harvest time. Avoid overhead watering which can promote disease.

Planting and Growing: Start indoors in short-season climates, or seed directly once soils have reached at least 65°F, preferably after the last frost. Make small, successive plantings every 10 days for a continuous harvest.

Harvesting and Storage: Pick regularly to extend harvest period. When you have enough beans harvested you can let the remaining beans mature and dry them on the vine to use as shell beans. Fresh green beans freeze well.
