Lettuce - Tricolored Romaine Mix - Lactuca sativa
Hardy Annual Heirloom. A tricolor blend of equal parts of the heirloom lettuces Silvia, Vivian, and Freckles. Silvia has sweet tender hearts and striking burgundy leaves. Vivian is a medium green romaine noted for its texture which is similar to a Bibb type lettuce. Freckles is a tender, long-standing bi-color romaine. The seeds are not color coded.
Soil and Water: Lettuce likes rich, well-drained, loose soil. Keep the plants moist, not waterlogged. Frequent short watering is best.
Planting and Growing: Start seeds indoors 4 weeks before transplanting outside, or sow seed directly as soon as the soil is workable. Make successive plantings every 10-14 days for a continuous harvest. In mild climates, lettuce can be sown from spring through fall.
Harvesting and Storage: Harvest by cutting whole head at the soil line. Harvest when they are at a good size, but while they are still young and tender.
