Spear & Jackson Tools Since 1760, Spear & Jackson of Sheffield, England, has been hand forging garden tools to last a lifetime. Although more expensive, they are preferred because they do not bend or fail like cheaper pressed steel tools. A forged tool is strong because it is formed from one thick piece of metal in several re-heating operations. There are no welds or joints. Please note, however, that even a forged tool can be damaged if used inappropriately. For example, a fork could bend if used to pry up an embedded boulder that should be dug out with a shovel.
Outstanding value in stainless steel forged tools. Attractive without sacrificing durability. Polished stainless steel heads are easy to clean and rust resistant. These are perfect for ground preparation, double digging and other digging jobs. One piece weather-proofed hardwood handle splits to form a wishbone handle. Note: these tools are not designed to be used on rocky soils. 3 can ship together.
7" wide x 11" long heads, 28" handle and overall length of 39"
I loved mine too, but it broke within the first year. I thought it was really nice quality. I was only pulling up a juniper bush, which doesn't even have a very extensive root system!Review by Sarah (on 3/17/15)
I've been using a SS fork purchased for Smith & Hawkins, made in England for several years. It has been the only fork that didn't hurt my hands so is indispensable.Today whilst turning leaves in the tine snapped off at the shoulder! I wonder if these are of the same manufacturer?Review by visualeyes (on 1/19/15)
I have 10 of these for my high school gardening classes and they are used on a daily basis by many young hands. Not one has faltered under constant daily abuse. I would recommend these for heavy use. We do not have heavy clay or rocky soil so i do not know how they stand up to bending or breaking in those conditions. I would be willing to predict it would be fine under moderate use after tilling or turning with a mattock.Review by Love 2 Dig (on 3/29/13)
