  • Latin Name: Asparagus officinalis
  • Zones: 3-10
  • Spacing/Depth: 18"/6" (root crown to top of soil)
  • Height/Spread: 4' - 5'/18"
  • Facts of note: This male variety yields the highest quality spears of the Jersey hybrids. These predominantly male plants (a few females may sneak in) put all their energy into producing beautiful, 7" - 9" spears, rather than berries and seeds. Cold and heat-tolerant. It has excellent fusarium tolerance and high resistance to rust.

Note: Do not be alarmed if there is small amounts of bluish-white mold on your rootstock, this is absolutely normal. It occurs from the cold storage process used to keep the plants dormant. This mold can be wiped off and will not affect the health of the plant. However, if the plants are rotten and/or mushy, please give us a call.

Limited Guarantee for Dormant Trees & Plants (When Planted in the Ground by April 1st)

Claim Deadline is June 1st (with the exception of persimmon trees, which have a deadline of June 15th)! Claims placed after June 1st (or June 15th for persimmon trees) will be denied.

What We Guarantee
Our only guarantee is that your dormant tree/plant will arrive in good, viable condition and will leaf out by May 15th (historically 98% of our trees do). This guarantee is only available to customers who purchased their tree/plant directly from us, and who planted their tree/plant in the ground by April 1st (or temporarily in a pot if the ground in their zone was still frozen solid).

What We Cannot Guarantee
We cannot guarantee that your tree/plant remains alive & healthy, or bears fruit, as there are too many variables beyond our control in order to do so (i.e. soil preparation, planting, fertilization, weed & pest control, adequate irrigation and/or drainage, chill hours, compatible hardiness for your zone, proper choice of pollinator, etc).

How to Request a Credit
If your tree/plant does not leaf out by May 15th, please perform a scratch test by checking for green under the bark, a few inches over the graft. If the scratch test reveals a brown cambium, that means your tree/plant is dead or dying. Watch our video titled Bare Root (Dormant) Warranty on how to perform this simple test. If the scratch test revealed that your plant is dead or dying, pull it from the ground and take pictures of the entire tree/plant, including the roots. Submit your claim & pictures by using the Return an Item tool on our Customer Service page (or email us at no later than June 1st (or June 15th for persimmon trees). We will review your claim and issue you a credit (not a refund) for the purchase price of your tree/plant (excluding shipping).*

(*) We reserve the right to not issue credit for items purchased with credit, or if we determine (by the pictures you provide) that your tree/plant was improperly cared for (due to root rot, rodent or mechanical damage).

Good bare roots.

Good bare roots. Planted them as directed but too soon to know if they will take hold.

Good looking asparagus crowns

I ordered a bundle of 12 Jersey Knight asparagus. I received my order within one week, at just the right time to plant in my zone. The crowns were nice and healthy looking and quite large for the price. I thought the price, including shipping, was very reasonable. I have planted the asparagus and am now waiting for it to sprout. I am so looking forward to years and years of asparagus.

2nd year in garden, seems to be doing well

I wrote a review last year and thought I would update in case it will help people (rookies like me) over time. My asparagus grew up to 7' tall this past season and I didn't harvest any. I just cut them back at the end of November but didn't have a chance to mulch them and put a frost blanket over the raised bed. Some of the stalks were huge - well over an inch in diameter. We have had a week of freezing night time temps so I hope they haven't had any damage. I won't have a chance to finish winterizing for a few more days. I plan on harvesting in the spring for the first time. Hopefully I can update this in a year and tell you how great they are. I know last year that I ate the few fresh spears as I winterized the bed and they pretty much melted in my mouth. This year I had no new spears at winterizing time but had plenty of stalks to cut back.
