Key Characteristics and Benefits of Growing Allium Purple Sensation
- Pollinator Friendly: Attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects during a critical bloom window.
- Deer and Rodent Resistant: Naturally repels common garden pests with its mild onion scent.
- Long-Lasting Blooms: Each flower lasts several weeks, extending the spring color palette.
- Drought Tolerant: Requires minimal watering once established.
- Excellent Cut and Dried Flower: Adds height and texture to both fresh and dried arrangements.
Growing Allium Bulbs
Alliums are low-maintenance and adaptable, thriving in various climates and soil types while adding bold visual interest to gardens.
Climate and Soil Requirements
Ideal for USDA Zones 3–8, they grow best in well-drained, moderately fertile soil with full sun, and benefit from raised beds in wet areas to avoid bulb rot.
Planting Time and Depth
Plant in fall about 4–6 weeks before frost, 5 inches deep and apart, with the pointed side up, grouping them for a natural, dramatic display.
Sunlight and Watering
They prefer full sun and need watering only during dry spells in spring, thriving in slightly dry conditions once established.
Care and Maintenance
Let foliage die back naturally after blooming to recharge bulbs for the next season, and leave dried flower heads for ornamental or craft use.

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

I followed the instructions with planting these (I am a pretty good gardener and haven’t had any issues with bulbs except for ones bought on this website). Nothing happened. Green leaves came up and then turned yellow and withered.
These are wonderful. I had about 6/10 fully bloom, but I think they will fare better next spring. Just wonderful flowers, ranging from 2-3 ft in height. Lovely fuchsia purple color. Very inviting and whimsical. Love that the deer don't care for them.
