Planting & Care
Soil & Water: Carrots prefer light, deeply tilled soils with plenty of added organic matter, good drainage, a pH range of 6.0-6.6, and regular water. Apply a mulch layer once established to keep roots cool. Carrots develop best at a soil temperature of 60-70°F.
Planting & Growing: Seed directly 2-3 weeks before the last frost. Carrots germinate quickly at a soil temperatures of 75°F, but will germinate in soils as cold as 45°F just more slowly. Mix the small seeds with dry coffee grounds or sand to improve seed distribution. Over planting requires thinning to provide sufficient growing room.
Harvesting & Storage: If necessary, loosen soil to pull carrots without breaking off tops. Trim off foliage to extend storage time. Layer roots in a container with damp paper towels and store in cool, moist conditions. Also good for canning or freezing.

I LOVE THESE CARROTS! They taste amazing, grow well, and are full of antioxidants.
When you open the packet, if you are familiar with carrot seeds, you will probably notice immediately that this is something a bit different. The seeds themselves are a little bit bigger, a bit tougher; before these carrots are even in the ground you know they're not your typical carrot.
When they grow the stems of their leaves (which are thicker and sturdier thank most carrots!) are edged and veined with that deep, midnight-purple color, when they flower the edges of the bloom-crowns are tinged in purple, and when you pull them out of the soil? They look almost inky-black! If you wanted REALLY purple carrots - not ones that are no longer purple if you peel them, or turn back to orange if you cook them - you've found them... you may also have gotten more than you bargained for!
When you scrub these under the faucet, the water will wash away in a blueish-purple stream... after peeling them, they can make your fingers look like they are covered in purple and blue bruises... and, if you cut them on wooden cutting-boards, they might even leave a stain!
...all that being said -- I *LOVE* THESE CARROTS!
They are VIGOROUS, they are LARGE, their stems are STRONG (making them easier to pull from the soil), and their color is GORGEOUS!
They make a beef stew look darker and richer! If I grate a smaller one in, they help my bolognese look deeper and meatier (the sauce more deep-red and less pink)! They pop in Shepards Pie or in a Japanese curry - & they cook soft & sweet as any carrot!
These are the beets of the carrot world! Dark reddish purple, when you wash them you get purple water. They taste like carrots with a radish-like kick. I left some to flower and they made a nice bouquet filler, as well as attracting beneficial insects.
These seeds look beautiful, nothing like what I expected, and the sprouts are coming up fast! I planted these with my salsify and scarlet nante carrots, very excited for a fun crop of multicolored root vegetables!!!
Let customers speak for us
from 9203 reviewsI grow this in old litter boxes for a bunny & Guinea pig rescue- it is a great treat! Grows fast, thick and moist. I also grow it in my catio for my cats
High quality saffron corms that shipped when they said they would. They started sprouting in my cabinet within a week so definitely plant them quickly after receiving.
They looked good when the plants arrived. Waiting for planters to transplant so they'll have more room, but not planting in the garden to avoid the mint from spreading all over. They're still alive....
Beautiful seed garlic
This tree takes a lot of patience, both in years to fully fruit out and in terms of how late in the season the peaches finally ripen, - the end of September here in zone 5b, - but boy are they amazing when they come in! I have two other peach trees, - Redhaven and Reliance, which have wonderful fruit, but these Indian Free White peaches are amazing. The aroma alone is incredible. These also have thicker skins, more "fuzz," which you can rub off, and are a bit on the acidic side, but OH so yummy! I have gotten raves from the farmers who tried them.
Been using this for last couple growing season. Works wonders for the garden.
This hose gets dragged over bark and around raised garden beds, and also over concrete and a weedy hillside to water a couple trees. So far it has performed well and there aren't any leaks or kinks!
I have not had a chance to plant these yet as it’s still a little early. Package came quickly and garlic was beautiful, can’t wait to plant it.
This is a great addition to my veg garden area!
These branch supports work well, are sturdy, and relatively cheap. While you do have to provide your own poles, you can buy wooden or metal ones of your needed length at hardware or home improvement stores. We ordered ten at first and then bought ten more after seeing how the first ones worked.
Of course I wanted a hand made wooden trug, but they are expensive! This plastic one is easy to clean, and the perfect size. I love the drainage holes.
No lightweight nonsense here! These are the one of the industry standards in tree pots and they have become our go to on the tree farm. You will find lightweight look-a-likes out there, but most only serve one time use. These have held up for years and been used multiple times in some cases.
This has become one of my new favorites for all around propagation. From seeds to cuttings we use this mix for our fig trees and have had unbelievable success. The mix is formulated for strong and fast root development. No complaints about it!
These trays are great. Everything is ready to go.
I use them for cuttings and seed starting and haven't been disappointed yet.
I had the frustration of having my dog dig up my citrus trees and figs out of their containers. I was furious. This granular repellent has stopped the dog completely. So now, the dog can stay.
