New Gardens and Lawns: Apply compost at 4-8 cubic feet per 100 sq ft (equivalent to 1/2” to 1” layer on top of the soil). Incorporate into the top 4-6” of soil by raking, tilling or digging. Use the higher rate for poorer soils.
Existing Gardens and Lawns: Apply compost at 2-4 cubic feet per 100 sq ft (equivalent to ¼” to ½” layer on top of the soil). Can be used as a mulch or can be incorporated into the soil to improve tilth and drainage.
