Container Sweet Peas in Soft Colors
Sweet Pea - Color Palette Cupid (Heirloom) - Lathyrus odoratus
Annual - Color Palette Cupid is a lovely color mix of fragrant bush sweet peas perfect to grow in outdoor containers to decorate your patio, deck, or any small space garden area. These diminutive vines grow just 8 - 10" fall, then the sweetly scented, big flowers bloom happily on softly cascading branches. Fill your containers with this special blend of all the Cupid colors. You'll have plants with blossoms in rose-pink and white, soft lavender, shell pink, and deep purple.
Soil & Water:Fill planting containers with well-moistened, good quality potting soil. Water well.
Planting & Growing:Sow seeds directly in deep containers at least 8" in diameter, or rectangular window-boxes at least 6" deep, once danger of frost has passed. Sweet peas grow best in cool weather and can handle light frosts. Plant seeds 1" deep and 2 - 3" apart. When seedlings are 2" tall, thin to about 3 - 4" apart. In mild winter climates, plant in fall weather to overwinter for spring bloom. Sweet peas bloom best before the weather gets too hot. When seedlings have 3 - 4 sets of leaves, pinch off top set to encourage branching for a bushy, full plant. Young plants will grow 8 - 10" tall, then cascade over the sides the container. It's critical to keep your container sweet peas well-watered and remember to fertilize them regularly every 2 weeks with a liquid fertilizer. Protect plants from slugs and snails. For longest bloom, remove faded blossoms regularly.
