Description

Amaranth - Love Lies Bleeding (Heirloom) - Amaranthus caudatus

Annual - These unique cottage garden flowers have long wine-red tassels of bloom that cascade gracefully from multi-branching 3 - 4' plants. Also called "Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate," the dangling ropes of tiny burgundy blossoms have a wonderful texture, like soft chenille. The easy to grow, big-framed plants thrive even in poor soil and hot conditions, adding rich color and drama to the garden. They make riveting and decorative vase flowers.

Soil & Water:Relatively drought tolerant once established. No need for additional amendments. Plant in ordinary well worked soil.

Planting & Growing:To start indoors, sow seeds 1" apart in pots or a container of seed starting mix. Cover lightly and keep moist with a strong light source. To start outdoors, sow seed in full sun in springtime when temperatures are consistently in the 50's. Space tiny seeds as thinly as possible. Cover lightly and keep moist until emerge in 7-10 days.

Harvesting & Storage: Cut flowers for large arrangements. Allow some heads to go to seed for self-sowing or saving.
