Planting & Care
Soil & Water: Pumpkins require rich, fertile soil and room to ramble. Vines need ample water and several feedings for best yields.
Planting & Growing: Sow seed in full sun when night temperatures are consistently above 50 degrees. Sow groups of 3 seeds, 3 feet apart and 1 inch deep in rows 4 feet apart. Thin to one strong seed per group. Or make circular mounds 3 feet across. Plant 6 seeds in center of mound and thin to the strongest three so vines have room to grow and produce.
Harvesting & Storage: Pumpkins need to mature before harvest. Wait to pick when rinds are fully deep orange and tough enough to resist a fingernail pierce. Cut from vines, leaving a good stem. Let cure in the sun for 10 days then store in a cool dry place for several months.
