Planting & Care

Soil & Water:Sow seeds in well worked fertile soil in full sun. Keep bed evenly moist. Add aged manure or compost with bonemeal to bed before seeding. Weed carefully and mulch to conserve moisture. Side dress lightly during growing season with a general purpose fertilizer. Stop fertilizing during last 2 months.

Planting & Growing: To start outdoors, sow 1 inch apart in rows 8 inches apart. Cover with 1/4 inch soil, firm and keep moist. Think gradually to 4" spacing. To start indoors, sow 1 inch apart in containers of seed starting mix and cover 1/4 inch deep. Provide a strong light source until 2-3 inches tall. Transplant 4 inches apart, burying crowns 1 inch deep.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest about mid-summer when sized up and half tops are bent over. Stop watering and bend over remaining tops and lay in the sun for another 7-10 days. Store in cool, airy place. Use soon.

Nice flavor

I had a good crop of smaller onions, but they had nice flavor and kept quite well. Very few bolted.
