  • Dutch Yellow Shallots have copper skins and and creamy yellow flesh.
  • Uniform in size and are excellent keepers. Tender and spicy, with a pungent raw flavor that mellows and sweetens when cooked.
  • Tolerant and can be grown in acidic soil down to 5.0 pH, but prefer 6.0-6.8 pH.
  • Plant in fertile, well-drained soil.
  • Approximately 18-20 bulbs per pound
  • Smaller bulbs have been shown to produce less bulbs per clump, but larger bulbs. With larger bulbs, you will get more bulbs per clump but they will be smaller (article on growing Shallots).

Guarantee

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, bare-root trees, vegetable crowns… etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as "Perishable" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

Beautiful Plump and Ready to Plant Shallots

These shallots were very healthy and ready to plant and are already shooting up through the soil. Quick shipping and arrived in perfect shape.

Absolutely Love These!

I had grown the red variety with really good results. Last year I read some of the reviews on the yellow and thought I would give them a try. I followed the directions and planted right after I received them in the fall and I was thrilled with the results. I had 100% germination, they were bigger than the reds and they were a huge hit at our Farmer's Market (I actually had a line at the opening a couple of times to make sure they got some before I sold out) and with my CSA so this year I followed the example of another reviewer and have more than doubled my order! I do a happy shallot dance when they arrive now.

Loved these!

I have grown the Red French Shallots before and was pleased so I grew the yellow for the first time last year. They grew beautifully! I planted them in the fall and within days of getting them as instructed. They matured faster than the red and many were larger as well. They are a favorite at the farmers market so I am ordering twice as many to plant this fall! I am a happy customer.

Not happy with these

I planted these in the spring and many of them did not grow. Not sure what went wrong. The red shallots grew really well, side by side with the yellow shallots.
