Asian Trio Specialty Eggplants Seed Mix

Asian Trio Specialty Eggplants Seed Mix

Flavorful Trio Ensemble

The Specialty Eggplants Asian Trio offers a diverse blend of eggplant cultivars, originating from various regions across Asia and belonging to the Solanum melongena species. Renowned for their unique shapes, vibrant colors, and distinct flavors, these eggplants enrich culinary experiences with their diversity.

This trio showcases an aesthetic wonder, featuring three distinct eggplant varieties. The cultivars encompass the slender, elongated Japanese eggplant, the small and round Thai eggplant, and the long and slender Chinese eggplant. Each variant boasts a different hue and shape, ranging from dark purple and green to creamy white, offering a visual delight in gardens and on plates.

In terms of taste, the Asian Trio eggplants present diverse flavors. The Japanese eggplant delivers a mild and slightly sweet taste, while the Thai eggplant offers a slightly bitter and nuttier flavor. The Chinese eggplant tends to have a denser flesh with a subtle sweetness and fewer seeds, adding versatility to dishes.

Planting these eggplants from seed requires specific growing conditions. Start seeds indoors approximately 6-8 weeks before the last frost date, using a well-draining seed-starting mix. Once seedlings develop several sets of true leaves, transplant them into rich, fertile soil with good drainage and adequate sunlight exposure.

Providing a warm, sunny environment with temperatures around 70-85°F (21-29°C) fosters healthy growth and fruit development. Consistent watering and well-drained soil are crucial for these eggplants, which thrive in various climates and offer a delightful fusion of flavors and textures for Asian-inspired dishes and culinary experiments.

Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Eggplants prefer moderately fertile, well-drained loamy soil supplemented with plenty of added organic matter and a pH of 6.0-6.8. Eggplants require heavy water and warm soil.

Planting & Growing: Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds directly in warm climates only. Because eggplants need plenty of water and warm conditions to grow, production accessories such as drip irrigation, plastic mulch, and row covers are a good idea. All eggplants are chill sensitive.

Harvesting & Storage: Begin harvesting early when fruits are half their mature size; young fruits are more tender and early picking will increase yields. Cut the fruit from the plant with shears leaving some stem attached.
