Mexican Tulip Poppy Flower Seeds

Mexican Tulip Poppy Flower Seeds

Also Called Giant Golden Cups

Poppy - Mexican Tulip Hunnemannia fumarifolia

Perennial - Also called Giant Golden Cups, these aristocratic poppy-like flowers grow 1.5 - 2' tall with upright, elegantly cut, silver-green foliage. Their straight stems are crowned with delicate 3" cups that glisten in the sun and resemble satiny lemon-yellow tulips. They are handsome cut flowers that are long lasting in fresh flower arrangements. Mexican Tulip poppies are perfect planted in groups or drifts where their eye-catching silky yellow flowers provide pools of arresting bloom.

Soil & Water:Sow seeds directly into a finely textured, well-drained garden bed in full sun as early in spring as the ground can be worked. Keep soil moist as seedlings emerge. When mature, poppy plants can handle dry conditions, but they will always bloom longer if regularly watered.

Planting & Growing: Sow seeds in a well-worked seedbed in full sun when danger of frost has passed and weather is warm and settled. Space seeds 4 - 5" apart in rows 10" apart, cover 1/2" deep and gently firm soil. Keep soil evenly moist while awaiting germination in 10 - 14 days. To Start Indoors: Two to three weeks before the last expected frost date, sow seeds 1/4" deep and 1" apart in pots of seed starting mix. Keep warm and moist and provide a strong light source until seedlings are ready to plant outdoors. Roots are brittle, so transplant very carefully 10" apart when seedlings are 3 - 4" tall.
