Choosing a Seed Spreader

• Hand-crank spreaders: Portable options for smaller lawns, beds, paths, and spot seeding.
• Bag and chest-mounted spreaders: Carry more material while allowing the operator to walk uneven ground or larger areas.
• Push broadcast spreaders: Wheeled models designed for more consistent passes across lawns and open ground.

Calibrate Before Seeding

Seed size, density, and flow characteristics affect the application rate. Begin with the seed supplier's target rate, use the spreader's adjustment guidance, and test a measured amount over a known area. Overlapping passes or dividing the seed into two perpendicular passes can help improve coverage when appropriate for the project.

Cleaning and Storage

Empty the hopper after use and remove lodged seed or residue. Clean and lubricate components according to the product instructions, then store the spreader in a dry location. Avoid leaving seed in the hopper between jobs.
