Practical fruit for home orchards where climate and soil conditions are suitable. Once established, they require little maintenance and are reliable producers. Best adapted to areas where summers are moderately cool; they dislike high humidity. Last fruit tree to bloom and first to ripen. Most require a pollenizer. Sensitive to wet, tight soils. Susceptible to birds, brown rot, and bacterial canker.
All semi-dwarf trees are on Colt Rootstock. Standard trees are on Mazzard Rootstock (about 30'-40' unpruned). Dwarf trees are on new Root 1 Rootstock. Unpruned, trees on Colt reach 70-80% of standard (about 25-32'). Trees are 2 years old and should begin to fruit in their 4th year.
Selecting the Perfect Tree For best success, be sure to choose a tree that will grow in your USDA zone, has an appropriate number of chill hours for your climate. If a pollinator is needed, make sure they're planted within 50 feet of each other and will bloom at the same time. Finally, what are your desired harvest intervals (all at once for canning or spread out for fresh eating). Enjoy!
