Collection: Jerusalem Artichokes or Sunchokes
Shop Jerusalem artichoke planting tubers, also called sunchokes. Despite the name, Helianthus tuberosus is a sunflower relative grown for its edible underground tubers. Availability varies by season, so order while planting stock is available.
These plants can be grown using organic and sustainable methods, including compost, organic soil amendments, mulch and appropriately labeled pest-management products. Certification is stated only when supported on the individual product page.
Before Planting Sunchokes
Choose a sunny site with suitable drainage and enough room for tall plants. Jerusalem artichokes can spread from tubers left in the soil, so consider a dedicated bed or another containment approach where unwanted spread would be difficult to manage.
Growing and Harvesting
Follow the spacing and planting-depth instructions provided with the product. Plants form tubers underground during the growing season. Harvest timing depends on local conditions and your preferred use; dig carefully to avoid cutting tubers and remove the amount needed while managing any tubers left in the bed.
