Peaceful Valley Organic Premium Soil Builder Mix - Raw Seed (lb)
Cool-Season Nitrogen Booster
Peaceful Valley Organic Premium Soil Builder Mix is designed for vegetable rotations where both nitrogen-rich legume growth and dependable cereal biomass are priorities. Rather than relying heavily on inexpensive grass seed, the formulation emphasizes winter-hardy organic peas and vetches, supported by organic oats and triticale. The result is a vigorous cool-season stand with several complementary root and canopy types.
The legumes form nodules that support nitrogen fixation, while the cereals establish fibrous roots, capture residual nutrients, and stabilize the soil through wet weather. Oats and triticale also provide an upright scaffold for the vining peas and vetches, helping the canopy remain productive as spring growth accelerates. This balance produces strong weed competition, abundant green manure, and flowering habitat for beneficial insects.
Seed in September or October in most regions. Spring planting may also work in coastal areas and other climates with cool summers. This is a raw-seed mix, so treat it with the appropriate inoculant immediately before planting. Plan termination according to the following crop: earlier mowing or incorporation creates softer residue and faster decomposition, while later termination produces more total biomass. The formulation may vary with seed availability, so review the current-lot ingredient statement when planning rotations.
- Season: Certified organic cool-season annual legume and cereal mixture
- Current Composition: Organic Triticale, Organic Peas, Organic Hairy and/or Purple Vetch, and Organic Oats; formulation may vary based on availability
- Application Rate: 3–5 lb per 1,000 sq ft or 70–120 lb per acre, planted approximately ¾–1 inch deep
- Inoculant: Strongly recommended for effective nodulation and nitrogen fixation. Use Pea Vetch Lentil Inoculant (treats 100 lb), Garden Combination Mix Inoculant (treats 8 lb), or Garden Combination Mix Inoculant (treats 50 lb). Choose the package size that matches the amount of seed being planted, and plant promptly after treating the seed.
- Germination: Approximately 5–10 days under suitable conditions
- Plant Height: Approximately 4–6 feet
- Uses: Organic green manure, nitrogen fixation, biomass production, weed competition, erosion control, and beneficial-insect habitat
- Planting Window: September or October in most regions; spring in coastal or cool-summer climates
- Management: Confirm the current-lot composition and terminate before mature seed develops

This mix works amazing, great fall cover crop
Just make sure to store it in a mouse proof container, those little monsters ate 1/3 of it over the winter.
I have used this for many years now and it always does well. I can't say how much nitrogen it really adds but after I turn it it in, wait a few weeks and then plant vegetables I always have a good crop.
I have used this blend all over my new property this fall to add nutrients to the soil and keep the hillside in place during the rains. It is an outstanding, fast growing mix with no grasses. Creates lots of biomass for chop and drop or compost. Most importantly, some early planting tests shows my sloped garden is filled with worms and very pliable - and it remains on the hillside. I will never ued anything else.
Very reliable cold tolerant cover crop seed
I didn't read enough about this product. In a hurry! It is too late for me to plant the mix here in Maine. AND I forgot to order the inoculant. I am going to save the seed and hopefully it will germinate for next early Sept. I won't forget to get the inoculant. Too early to order it now as it has a shelf life of about a year which usually means out of date in Dec. 2018.
