Easy to use. I found it best to dig a hole that is plenty large enough in diameter to accommodate the open basket, then fill soil in the basket before filling around the outside of the basket so the basket doesn’t collapse. This nicely complements traps ensuring that plant roots are protected.

I use these root guards for all of my veggies and fruit tree plantings. It is essential to protect roots from gophers that will eat entire root systems and this kill the plant or tree. These wire cages do not rust and last for many years in the ground. Excellent product.

Have bait. Have applicator tool. Have cats, can't take the risk of poisoning them. These seem like a pretty good compromise, for now. Plan on getting more.

We have gophers like crazy in SoCal. For plants like roses and shrubs, I use a less expensive type of gopher basket, but when it comes to fruit trees and other plantings that I hope to have for decades, I invest into these, the best money can buy. The holes are just the right size to keep gophers out but allow roots to go through without choking them, and I've dug up 10-year-old trees where the baskets were still intact and the roots were large and healthy. If losing it to a gopher would be devastating, invest into these.
