Choose a Dormant Spray by Its Label

Products are not interchangeable. Before buying or applying one, confirm the target plant, pest or disease, application timing, temperature restrictions and other directions on the current product label. Some products target certain overwintering insects, some are labeled for particular diseases, and some have broader or different uses.

“Dormant spray” describes a timing or use pattern; it does not mean every product is organic or appropriate for every tree. Organic status is stated only when supported by the product’s certifier or listing.

Plan the Application

  • Identify the pest or disease before selecting a treatment.
  • Check the label for crop, life-stage and timing restrictions.
  • Consider weather, temperature and plant-growth stage.
  • Follow all mixing, protective-equipment, application and cleanup directions.
