Avocados and citrus fruits are popular home-grown crops. Both can be grown in pots, though there are a few things to consider before planting.
Avocados prefer a well-draining soil mix and plenty of sunshine, so choose a pot that is at least 18 inches wide and deep. Standard avocado trees can grow up to 30 feet tall, so they're best suited for large yards or farms.
Citrus trees need a slightly acidic soil mix and full sun, so make sure the pot you choose has drainage holes. If you live in an area with cold winters, it's also important to choose a pot that is frost-resistant. As for citrus trees, there are many different varieties to choose from, including oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit.
