Description

Peaceful Valley Good Bug Blend is a diverse insectary seed mix developed to provide nectar, pollen, shelter, and season-long plant diversity for pollinators and beneficial insects. It can be planted along field borders, between crop blocks, beside orchards, or in dedicated insectary strips where flowering plants will not interfere with cultivation.

The blend combines annual and perennial clovers, alfalfa, flowering herbs, vegetables, and wildflowers. Different bloom forms and flowering periods help support insects such as native bees, honeybees, syrphid flies, lacewings, lady beetles, tachinid flies, and parasitoid wasps. Beneficial-insect presence and pest suppression will vary with local habitat, pesticide exposure, bloom continuity, and surrounding crops; this mix should be considered one part of an integrated pest-management program rather than a guaranteed pest-control treatment.

Sow in spring after severe frost danger or in late summer to early fall where seedlings can establish before cold weather. Select a weed-free site with adequate sun, cover seed lightly, and keep the seedbed moist through establishment. Mow or trim portions sequentially rather than cutting the entire planting at once so some flowers and shelter remain available.

  • Application rate: Drill or broadcast 10–15 lb per acre, or ½ lb per 1,000 sq ft
  • Inoculant: No additional inoculant is normally needed; the coated legume components include compatible inoculant.
  • Bloom: May begin approximately 45–90 days after planting; timing and persistence depend on season and site
  • Average height: About 18 inches, with some species potentially reaching several feet
  • Contains: Crimson, red, Nungarin sub, yellow sweet, Hykon rose, and white clovers; semi- and non-dormant alfalfa; coriander, daikon radish, dill, red radish, carrot, calendula, California buckwheat, baby's breath, sweet alyssum, white yarrow, caraway, celery, fennel, and parsley

This item ships directly from the vendor and cannot be canceled once the order is placed.

Note for certified organic growers: Nitrocoated seed is conventionally grown, non-GMO seed with no fungicide or insecticide seed treatment applied before coating. The coating contains certified organic powdered limestone, an organically approved binder, and an OMRI-approved peat-based inoculant, applied through an OMRI-approved process on a dedicated Nitrocoated-seed treatment line.
