Soil & Water: Eggplants prefer moderately fertile, well-drained loamy soil supplemented with plenty of added organic matter and a pH of 6.0-6.8. Eggplants require heavy water and warm soil.
Planting & Growing: Direct seed after the last frost or start indoors as transplants 4-6 weeks before last frost. Plants will benefit from mulching to conserve moisture and control weeds. Stakes for support may be needed if the plants become heavy with fruit.
Harvesting & Storage: Can harvest anytime after fruit has reached the mature size, but don't wait too long, over-ripe fruit is tough and bitter. Eggplants do not store well.
