Pest Wizard Spotted Wing Drosophila Trap Kit

Pest Wizard Spotted Wing Drosophila Trap Kit

Protect both undamaged and damaged fruit

The Spotted Wing Drosophila Suzukii Fly is a very serious invasive fly that was, a few years ago, carelessly imported into the Americas from its native habitat in Asia. The female fly deposits one or more eggs in each fruit. These hatch into maggots (larvae) that feed inside the fruit. Infested fruit turns brown and mushy soft. Damage can also provide an entry site where secondary fungal infestations and bacterial pathogens can enter. Unlike other native Drosophila vinegar fly species that only lay eggs in damage or rotting fruit, invasive suzukii species attack both undamaged and damaged fruit.

Known hosts include cherries, caneberries (raspberry, blackberry, boysenberry, etc.), blueberries, strawberries, Japanese plums and plumcots, nectarines, grapes, and figs.

The lure has been tested to selectively attract suzukii species, but may also attract a few other Drosophila species. This pest is relatively new on the continent and, therefore, research-based management information is still limited.

Storage: Prior to deployment, extend lure shelf life by storing this package away from high heat. Long term, store in freezer or refrigerator.

Kit includes two large yellow sticky traps, one 90–day lure, and dual wire hangers for secure deployment in any weather. Purchase additional Spotted Wing Drosophila Lures. Check out more of our Insect Traps.
